We define philanthropy as the giving of resources in an engaged and strategic way for maximum impact and in a tax efficient manner. It can include the giving of money, assets, time, talent, voice and one’s social capital. We believe in the power of philanthropy as a great social connector and the source of many great opportunities.

New website to support time-poor charity leaders facing tough decisions

Jan 30th 2018

A new support website aimed at helping charity leaders face today's big challenges has been launched by The Institute for Voluntary Action Research (IVAR), based on 17 years of close collaboration with the voluntary, public and funding sectors .

The microsite makes useful and usable insights and features a number of short video case studies addressing touch leadership issues such as:

  • Is merger the right ‘survival strategy’ for your organisation?
  • How do you decide what to prioritise when everything is important?
  • What works for setting up cross-sector working?
  • What is core funding, and how do you know if you are ready to apply for it?

Ben Cairns, Director of IVAR, said: ‘We want to support the small, voluntary and community organisations that we’ve been working with since 2000. As our reports are often written for funders, lessons for the voluntary sector can get lost. Here, we’ve presented them in a way that we hope is useful to senior people with little time.’
