We define philanthropy as the giving of resources in an engaged and strategic way for maximum impact and in a tax efficient manner. It can include the giving of money, assets, time, talent, voice and one’s social capital. We believe in the power of philanthropy as a great social connector and the source of many great opportunities.

Giving Trends: Top 300 Foundation Grant-Makers 2015

Foundation grant-making has risen, by 6.4%, to £2.5bn – the highest total since the financial crash of 2008 – with over 65% of this year’s Top 300 foundations increasing their giving.

The finding has emerged from the latest in a series of annual research reports, Foundation Giving Trends; led by Professor Cathy Pharoah of the Centre for Giving and Philanthropy at the Cass Business School, published by the Association of Charitable Foundations (ACF), and substantially supported by the Pears Foundation.

New paper published to help charities looking for alternative funding sources

Charity income fell by £2.5bn between 2007/08 and 2012/13, while the value of government grants has halved in a decade. Charities are increasingly turning to alternative sources of funding such as Social Investment and Crowd-funding. In light of this New Philanthropy Capital, with input from Big Society Capital and Nesta, has published the New funding sources briefing paper to consider how charities can exploit these alternative sources of finance.
