We define philanthropy as the giving of resources in an engaged and strategic way for maximum impact and in a tax efficient manner. It can include the giving of money, assets, time, talent, voice and one’s social capital. We believe in the power of philanthropy as a great social connector and the source of many great opportunities.

Charities encouraged to recruit more young trustees

Charities have been encouraged to increase the number of young trustees on their boards, in a new guide by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF). The guide highlights how a diverse board can result in increased flexibility, greater scrutiny and better informed decision making.

Just 2% of charities have a young person (18-30) serving on their board of trustees, despite the fact that 85% of people aged under 35 would consider becoming a trustee. The average of a charity trustee is 57.

CAF: Young Trustees Guide

The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) has launched the Young Trustees Guide based on the findings of the Young Trustees Survey. The guide was created to address the fact that young people represent only 2% of charity trustees in the UK.

Majority of charity supporters want to be updated after donating

Hannah Terrey CAF

The majority of people want to be kept informed about the work of charities they give money to; recent research, from the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), has shown.

81% of respondents said that it is important to receive some form of communication from a charity after making a donation. More than two-thirds of people said they prefer to hear about the impact a charity is having rather than just a standard ‘thank you’ message. Whilst 57% of respondents claimed that receiving regular updates from the charity was important.
