We define philanthropy as the giving of resources in an engaged and strategic way for maximum impact and in a tax efficient manner. It can include the giving of money, assets, time, talent, voice and one’s social capital. We believe in the power of philanthropy as a great social connector and the source of many great opportunities.

City Philanthropy

A Wealth of Opportunity

Introduction to Friendly Funders

10:00 am
London Funders is hosting this event for members to showcase the positive impact that adopting the living wage has had for voluntary organisations. Several large funders such as City Bridge Trust, Comic Relief and the Lloyds Bank Foundation have signed up to the Living Wage Foundation’s ‘Friendly Funders’ scheme, supporting the campaign to tackle low pay in the voluntary and community sector. Most recently, the Big Lottery Fund has signed up to the scheme, recognising that higher pay can break cycles of disadvantage.
Grantees will have the opportunity to present the benefits that the living wage has had on their workforce, and the Living Wage Foundation will provide evidence demonstrating how adopting the Living Wage has helped organisations to progress.
Furthermore, a representative from the London Borough of Croydon will explain why it became one of the three London Local Authorities to become a living wage grant maker. This will provide a unique insight on the benefits of the living wage from a Local Authority Perspective.
