Lionel Assant has been appointed to the board of trustees at Impetus-PEF
A City MD and a London professor are the latest trustees to join the board of venture philanthropy practice Impetus-The Private Equity Foundation (Impetus-PEF).
Lionel Assant brings his European investment experience as Managing Director of global investment and advisory firm Blackstone, and Professor Becky Francis offers insight into education and social justice, subjects she lectures on at King’s College London.
Assant said: “The great thing about Impetus-PEF is that they apply the private equity model to the social sector - a pioneering approach which is proven to have far greater impact than simply giving financial help to a charity”.
Professor Francis said that her experience as an academic drew her to Impetus-PEF’s commitment to evidence-informed practice. “I am delighted to join the Impetus-PEF board. I’m particularly attracted to Impetus-PEF’s model of helping other charities to improve the quality and effectiveness of their programmes and interventions for disadvantaged young people”, she said.
Impetus-PEF provides long-term funding and sustained strategic and management advice to 27 UK charities and social enterprises that support disadvantaged young people in education and employment.
Impetus-PEF CEO Daniela Barone Soares welcomed both: “They join a group of active and highly experienced trustees whose expertise and support is crucial to our work with disadvantaged young people.”
