Should we launch a 1% City Bonus pledge?
Do you work in the city of London? Do you receive an annual bonus?
We are holding a select think tank on Tuesday June 28 2016 between 6-7.30pm at The City Centre, 80 Basinghall Street, London EC2V 5AR and invite you to share your views on this crucial topic, followed by drinks and networking.
Can and should the City’s bonus pot become a force for good? In an age of austerity, escalating need and growing inequality, should the citizens of the Square Mile and Canary Wharf donate more of the proceeds of their success for public benefit, or should we leave that to tax? What is the City’s obligation and potential to make a personal social impact?
City Philanthropy, which aims to encourage and celebrate a culture of philanthropy in the City, invites you to share your views on a proposal to launch a 1% City Bonus pledge, which will be followed by a fun mixer offering networking opportunities. The aim of the think tank is to gauge whether there is an appetite to launch a 1% City Bonus Pledge and if so what form it might take. We simply want to hear your viewpoints!
We want to know:
• Is 1% enough? How much would you pledge?
• Whether proceeds would go just to London?
• Would they support particular causes or charities?
• Could they be used as a matching fund?
• Would proceeds be granted or invested?
• How would they be managed?
• How could the pledge be publicised?
• Who would support it?
• How would we measure its impact?
Why a 1% City Bonus Pledge?
While companies today are increasingly focused on their Corporate Social Responsibility, research shows that employees are more socially-minded than ever and are looking to nurture their individual social responsibility to have a personal positive impact on the world. We want to discover whether the time is right for a 1% City Bonus pledge that will afford individuals an easy way to demonstrate their philanthropic intent and add their resources to those of their peers to make a bigger difference than they could alone. We are testing the water, and believe capturing the valued opinions of bonus recipients is the best methodology for shaping our ideas.
We hope you can join our select focus group on June 28th at The City Centre, Basinghall Street, London between 6pm and 7.30pm in a relaxed networking environment to help develop our critical thinking while enjoying an insightful and rewarding evening with your City peers.
