We define philanthropy as the giving of resources in an engaged and strategic way for maximum impact and in a tax efficient manner. It can include the giving of money, assets, time, talent, voice and one’s social capital. We believe in the power of philanthropy as a great social connector and the source of many great opportunities.

City Philanthropy

A Wealth of Opportunity

About us

City Philanthropy - A Wealth of Opportunity is an initiative that celebrates and promotes philanthropy in the City Square Mile and Canary Wharf. We seek to expose every young professional to philanthropy and empower them to maximise their potential as a force for good. We do this by providing information, inspiration and support for young professionals on their philanthropic journey.

Our aims are:

  • To embed philanthropy as part of a City career
  • To empower the next generation as a force for good
  • To promote London as a global centre for effective philanthropy

City Philanthropy is funded by City Bridge Trust, the City of London Corporation charity as part of its strategic work..

What we do

City Philanthropy’s key role is to connect with young professionals through a range of initiatives to co-ordinate, collaborate and communicate philanthropic activities in the City. We do this through communications, education and inspiration.

We are a 'hub' of information for young professionals in the City Square Mile and Canary Wharf for all things philanthropy. Sign up for the free monthly bulletin here.

In 2015, City Philanthropy commissioned research, conducted by Cass Business School, and released two reports: More to Give: London Millennials Working Towards A Better World and More to Give: London Millennials Networking Towards A Better World

More to Give: London Millennials Working Towards A Better World shows that millennials are very active in giving and volunteering, that there is a strong desire to give more amongst younger employees and demonstrates the critical role the employer has in influencing employee giving activity. Read more about this report here.

More to Give: London Millennials Networking Towards A Better World shows that the London millennial generation have a strong desire to connect and commit together to social change. They strongly believe in collaboration and impact when giving their  time, money and skills for maximum impact. Read more about this report here.

Every month we produce a round-up of news and events of all things philanthropy in our bulletin. Make sure you receive it by signing up here.

We provide young City professionals educational resources around philanthropy - go to our LEARN section on the site.

Our 2 hour Workshop Re:Thinking Philanthropy is designed to introduce professionals to how they can make a difference and educate them about causes using data and evidence from charity leaders and service users. Find out about our next workshop here, This ranges from sharing key reports, books, philanthropy publication listings and much more. See here for the full range of educational resources available.

We too provide information about how to get started in giving. See here for some ideas on how to get involved in giving.

We seek to inspire young City professionals to be involved in giving through their time, money and skills. One of the many ways in which we inspire them is by capturing and sharing some of the inspiring ways in which donors give.
